Fury as 12 baby corpses found in storage during a surprise hospital visit by Kenyan governor

Kenyans are enraged by the discovery of baby corpses found by Governor Mike Sonko at the Pumwani Hospital in the capital Nairobi during a surprise visit to the facility.

His visit was prompted by an allegation of babies dying due to a shut down of machines by the hospital authorities who had denied the claims. However, he found the bodies wrapped in polythene bags and kept in three boxes inside a storage room.

“I want to categorically state that human life must be respected no matter the case. Stern action will be taken against anyone found to be sabotaging the good services offered to our mothers and sisters who come to deliver in this facility,” Sonko said while filming the entire visit online with the startling discovery.

The hospital authorities had earlier told the governor that only a baby had died in the past 24 hours, reports local media Daily Nation.

“This is a police matter. You can’t lose 12 babies in a day,” he said and subsequently drew the attention of the police to investigate the maternity facility of the public hospital.

Pumwani Hospital is managed by the Nairobi City County and has come under a lot of criticism following various concerns including reports of theft of babies, negligence, poor services and maltreatment of women in labour, reports Daily Nation.
