Ghanaians mourn the death of young Dancehall star, Ebony Reigns

The death of Ebony Reigns has been a shock, to say the least. Death is inevitable, nevertheless, when it strikes a person who is young and whose future looks so bright, it is harder to accept.

Music star Ebony Reigns, real name Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, left a void in the hearts of many Ghanaians when she died in a car crash on Thursday night in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The rising dancehall and Afrobeats artist was returning from Sunyani, the capital of the Brong Ahafo Region when her car crashed into a bus killing her, a friend and a security man. Her driver is reported to be unconscious.

The 20-year-old artist’s death was confirmed by the Divisional Commander of Mankranso, DSP John Adusei who told local radio Citi FM that her “Jeep collided with the bus at the intersection of the road between the Nsuta and Bechem junction”. “Three of them passed on, even the driver. Now the bodies are at Mankranso. We have a morgue here so we have deposited the bodies over here,” he added.

Ebony rose to fame after her first single, “Dancefloor“, in December 2015 released by Rufftown Records. The song was nominated for the unsung category award at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards. She was consistent with hit singles including “Kupe” in 2016.

2017 was Ebony’s breakthrough after releasing “Poison”, “Date Your Fada”, “Sponsor” and “Maame Hw3” which addressed the domestic violence problem in the country.

Here are some reactions to the young star’s unfortunate demise:
