Goodluck Starts on the Right track

Today the President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria made an announcement offering some form of reprieve for the victims of the violence in the north following the announcement of the results of the presidential elections concluded in April.

Almost 3 weeks after the disaster President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan offered the families of the 10 individuals who lost their lives while on youth service in Bauchi and Kaduna some sort of compensation to ease the passing of their loved ones.

The Overall package sounded something like this:
-All of the 10 families would recieve NGN 5 Millions
-Siblings of the victims would be granted automatic appointment to the Nigerian Federal and Civil service positions.
-Any injured participants of the youth Corp process would also receive Federal and Civil service positions upon completion of their service.

The announcements comes on the back of appeals for justice as these young people were performing their civic duties before violence broke out.

Our hearts go out to the families who have lost a loved one to political violence in the continent and although this is not reparation enough its a step in the right direction.
