Here are 10 deliciously different wedding cake flavors you can try for your big day

No wedding is ever complete without the couple cutting a cake.

For Africans, both home and in the diaspora, it is an integral part of the wedding reception because the couple always choose a mother figure known to both to assist with the cake cutting.

One interesting fact is that most cakes at African weddings have the same taste. People barely experiment with different flavors.

It appears all the bakeries have one recipe for wedding cakes. There are a few people who dare to break away from the norm and opt for different cake flavors.

If you are planning your wedding, don’t get roped in with the usual flavors, try some of these amazing and unique flavors that would get your guests wanting more.

Caramelized Vanilla

Vanilla is a safe option for that conservative couple, but this cake is not your plain old vanilla cake. With a generous amount of salted caramel buttercream mixed with a whipped dark chocolate ganache, be sure to elevate the average vanilla cake’s game at your reception.

Spiked Red Velvet

For the couple who don’t mind spicing things up a little, adding a generous amount of the sweet Italian liqueur, amaretto will do well to re-brand everyone’s favorite red velvet cake.

Oreo Cake

You can never have too many Oreos ever. That is why even on your wedding day, everyone’s favorite cookies can be the dominant flavor in your cake. Pair up layers of chocolate or vanilla cake with chocolate frosting and an Oreo ganache. Be sure to add chunky Oreo bits and dazzle it with some white chocolate for that crunchy element.

Peanut Butter Cake

If you love peanut butter and you won’t go a week without a peanut butter sandwich, then having a peanut butter wedding cake will not be too far-fetched. Add a generous amount of peanut butter buttercream to layers of chocolate cake and finish it off with a thick and creamy chocolate and peanut butter ganache.

Pink Champagne

When the bride gets to have the final say on the cake choice, it’s easier to pitch a pink girly girl champagne cake! Substitute butter with pink champagne. Your pink wedding cake will go very well with vanilla buttercream and raspberry mousse to add that tanginess to the cake.

Ginger Spice

Winter brings the chills and this cake will warm up your guests in a sweet way. Ginger is a favorite spice that features in most African dishes and well, we all know how it can be overpowering. To make the perfect ginger spice cake, you’d to pair it up with calming elements like real maple frosting and vanilla bean icing. Make available some warm milk or strongly brewed hot chocolate. Walnuts bits sprinkled on the frost can give it that added crunch.
