Actor Jamie Foxx has made history as the first-ever African American lead in a Pixar film. He featured in the trailer of Disney Pixar’s new animated feature -‘Soul’- which will be released later in the year.
The actor voices the protagonist in the animated feature, which is directed by a two-time Oscar winner Pete Docter.
In an Instagram post, the actor said he is “Honoured to be the first ever African American lead in a Pixar film. 100 days away. I cannot wait for you all to see this beautiful story”.
The movie is based around the life of Joe Gardner, a jazz musician and music teacher, whose soul suddenly leaves his body.
The film’s voice cast includes Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Angela Bassett, Questlove and Daveed Diggs.
Soul is slated to hit the theatres on June 19, 2020. The trailer of the animated film reveals the expedition of Gardner, a middle-school band teacher (voiced by Foxx) whose passion is playing Jazz.
At the verge of attaining his goal, an unanticipated step sends him to a fantastical place where he is forced to think again about what it truly means to have a soul.
Joe seeks the help of a soul named 22 to find his way back and it turned out to be a process of self-discovery, self-analysis and self-consciousness.
“Soul” will be the second Pixar original film for 2020 following the recent release of “Onward”.
