Biden — along with Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Rajiv Shah and U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues Catherine Russell — will be traveling to Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sierra Leone.
The trip will underscore how girls’ and women’s education positively impacts several facets of society.
From the White House:
“During their travel, Dr. Biden, Administrator Shah, and Ambassador Russell will highlight how girls’ education and women’s participation in government, the economy, and civil society can accelerate economic development, improve health and educational outcomes, strengthen democratic governance, and foster peace and security.”
This theme will be reiterated during President Barack Obama‘s Africa Summit in August.
