As part of their goal to remove all stigma around autism in Kenya and Africa as a whole, the Light of Autism organisation in Kenya organised the Mr and Miss Autism 2019.
Organised for young men and women with autism, the pageant was held on April 20, 2019, in Kasarani and has since gained the attention of many as two beautiful ladies and a handsome gentleman walked home as the new King and Queens.
Selected contestants went through auditions and grooming before the final night mesmerizing the audience with their ability to conduct themselves and go through with the whole pageantry process.
Organised to mark the Autism Awareness Month, the event was the climax of an eventful day of autism awareness activities. Present at the event to crown the winners was Kenyan politician, philanthropist and entrepreneur Esther Muthoni Passaris who later took to Twitter to congratulate the winners.
The beautiful Sarah Bosibori Bitange took the crown for Light of Autism Kenya 2019 while Peggy Mwaura and Maurice Omondi Opiyo took the Miss and Mr Autism Kenya 2019 respectively.
As part of their duty, the 3 royals will take on autism awareness campaigns around Kenya and work with other people with autism on projects that will be beneficial in their society.
Organised every year, the contest is slowly gaining grounds and hopes that the current Miss Light of Autism Kenya will use her platform to make it an even bigger contest.
Born with autism but diagnosed at a later age, Sarah Bosibori Bitange’s parents were told about their daughter’s problem when she was 9 years old and in primary school. Although her parents did not completely understand what was happening to their daughter, Sarah was put through several medical tests and then diagnosed with the disorder when she was 10 years old.
Over the years, Sarah has been an advocate for Autism speaking for people who have a severe diagnosis than she has. Already a member of the Kenya Autism Alliance, she plans on using her new crown and platform to gain funds and sponsorship to help educate more people about the condition.
