Homemade alcohol or moonshine laced with “industrial chemicals” is believed to be the cause of more than 60 deaths in Kenya, reports the BBC.

Due to the expensive cost of regulated alcohol, many Kenyans have reportedly opted for a cheaper alternative, but the alternative has been deadly.
According to reports, “Dozens of others are said to have been blinded since Sunday, after drinking the illicit brew in four counties,” which include Embu, Kitui, Limuru, and Kiambu.
“Officials say [that the moonshine] may have contained methanol — a toxic substance used to boost the strength of the drink.”
Sadly, this not the first instance of such a tragedy. In 2005, 45 people also died from alcohol mixed with methanol.
