Koffi Olomide is set to perform at the Lugogo cricket oval in Kampala, Uganda, on April 25th. The proceeds from the show will be used to build a new blood bank at Mengo hospital. The Congolese singer, known for his Lingala videos and dancers who made Ndombolo popular, believes artists should share their gift for love and not for money.
In a statement after performing at the wedding of President Mugabe’s daughter Bona, he asserted that “they (young musicians) have to do whatever they do with love. They should not to do it for the money or fame -that is the first thing. Everything must come from the heart or not out of jealousy . . . music should be in the blood. After being in music for 30 years I can say music is in my blood,” reports The Herald.
With a successful career spanning 30 years, he has clearly seen it all as a musician. His popular band Quartier Latin formed in 1986 celebrated their 20-year anniversary in 2006, and has continued to perform and record with the band as well as solo. Koffi Olomide has an international fan base in Africa and Europe.
