Laurence Fishburne’s eldest daughter, Montana Fishburne, will have to serve 24 months of probation after she was arrested for battery on a police officer. According to US Weekly, the incident involving the 32-year-old and the police officer occurred in January 2022.
Broward County sheriffs arrested and charged Montana with battery on a law enforcement officer after authorities responded to her 911 call about an ex-boyfriend she accused of threatening and stalking her.
Officers who responded to the scene did not find anyone home. But records stated that Montana approached the officers at a sidewalk around the location after allegedly screaming at them “that no one helped her.” Records also stated that the officers on multiple occasions told the 32-year-old to “back up” during the incident, but she slapped the head of one of the officers. The deputy’s ear got swollen and red as a result.
Montana initially entered a not-guilty plea, but she later changed it to a no-contest. “There is no admission of guilt and no conviction and the case will be sealed and put in the rearview,” Montana’s attorney, Michael Grieco, told the news outlet. “And young Ms. Fishburne will be able to move on with her life.”
Grieco said Montana should be done with her probation after she finishes a 13-week anger management program, US Weekly reported. Montana also has two previous DUI arrests. Her father has, however, publicly spoken about her daughter’s arrests.
It is well-known Montana’s 62-year-old father Laurence is a famous Hollywood actor. The Matrix actor has three children – two with Hajna O. Moss and the other with Suits actress Gina Torres. Montana, whose mother, is Moss, told US Weekly in a previous interview that she never aspired to follow in her father’s footsteps.
“I wasn’t really into mainstream acting,” she said. “People would ask me, ‘Do you want to get into acting? Do you want to be an actress?’ and I would say, straight up, ‘No.’ I knew I wanted to do adult [films].”
She added: “I absolutely didn’t make this movie to hurt my parents or bring shame to my family name. This was something that I wanted to do and I think that, in time, my father will support me in my decision.”
Montana also touched on her mother’s support, saying, “[My mom] just tells me that she loves me and that whatever decisions that I make, she wants me to be sure about it. And I am.”
