After being discovered last November, the world’s second-largest diamond now has a name:
Lesedi La Rona, reports Fin.

Canada’s Lucara Diamond Corporation found the 1,111-carat diamond in the Karowe mine in northern Gaborone in addition to an 813-carat stone and 374-carat stone.
On Tuesday, a naming competition, which garnered 11,000 e-mail and 1,000 SMS entries, took place at the Investing in African Mining Indaba Conference with Thembani Moitlhobogi winning a little more than $2,221 for the name “Lesedi La Rona” or “our light” in Setswana.
In his submission, Moitlhobogi said he chose the name because the diamond represents his nation’s pride and rich legacy.
The world’s largest diamond was found in South Africa.

The largest diamond ever found was in South Africa in 1905. The diamond was 3,106 carats and was cut into nine stones that are now a part of the British Crown jewels.
After the diamond goes on a road show, the diamond will be sold as-is around June.
