A major power outage has hit Kenya and crossed borders to parts of neighbouring Uganda on Tuesday evening.
The unexplained outage blamed on technical fault affected Kenya’s capital Nairobi, Mount Kenya, Nyanza, Western Rift Valley and the coastal regions, said electricity distributor Kenya Power.
“A technical hitch emanating from our transmission system has led to loss of electricity to parts of the country this evening. The faulty section has been isolated and efforts to restore supply have commenced beginning with Mt Kenya and Nairobi regions,” they added in a statement.
Uganda’s power distributing company Umeme Limited told Reuters that their power outage was caused by a system disturbance.
Both countries say engineers are working on the problem and power is being restored gradually.
