Jason Smith initially made waves when he adopted three foster brothers, Taveon (12), Ireon (11), and Tayvon (10). The Nevada man took in the kids after finding their information on an adoption website.
By late April 2022, the three had moved into Smith’s house as foster children, and nine months later, in a Nevada courtroom, they were officially recognized as his sons. Following his father’s passing in 2021, Smith felt motivated to adopt the boys.
He stated in a WDSU interview, “I felt a way about not providing him with grandkids. There was a level of purposefulness that I didn’t have.”
He told Today in 2023 that he had only planned to adopt one child but was captivated by the trio when he saw them, describing his decision as “fate and destiny.”
Smith’s home was the boys’ sixth foster placement in their short lives. The family now travels extensively, visiting numerous countries and even taking a Disney cruise.
In his interview with WDSU, Smith explained that parenting has been “like an adventure.” He admitted that he was ready for some fatherly responsibilities, though he is still learning.
He recounted, “There was no handbook. What I’ve done to guide myself through this experience has really been just reflecting on my own childhood and what felt good and what didn’t.”
Likewise, the kids express their enthusiasm for their new home.
Taveon said, “I think I feel like happy and like a joy that like we have someone who is willing, willing to take any child.”
“We are really awesome, and that’s what really matters,” Tayvon added.
