A Texas man, Roderick Jackson, is suing Walmart, demanding $100 million in damages or an “unlimited free lifetime shopping” at any Walmart location. The handwritten complaints were submitted last Monday to the U.S. District Court in Arkansas, where Walmart’s headquarters are located.
Jackson’s complaints against Walmart, filed without an attorney, lack details on the reason for the lawsuit, according to NBC News.
The incident allegedly took place in March 2021 at an Omaha, Nebraska store, involving accusations of “false pretense of shoplifting” and a claimed violation of Jackson’s civil rights on the grounds of race/color.
Jackson is also requesting Walmart to cover his court fees, and attempts to reach him at a listed phone number have been unsuccessful. A spokesperson for Walmart pointed out that it does “not tolerate discrimination of any kind.”
“Mr. Jackson’s allegations are almost identical to a lawsuit he filed against our company in 2021 that was dismissed. We intend to defend the company against the allegations once we have been properly served and will quickly ask the court to dismiss any claims that are without merit,” the company said.
In 2021, Jackson sued Walmart for an alleged incident where he claimed racial profiling and false accusations led to his arrest. That complaint mentioned emotional distress and pain from handcuffs but did not specify the police department involved.
He initially sought $100 million and a substantial shopping credit but Jackson later amended his complaint, seeking $175 million in damages.
However, the case was dismissed in the same year due to a failure to properly serve Walmart, according to court documents.
