A Black man walked into a Louisville bar and shot to death three random people at point-blank range Friday night while wearing a Justice for Breonna Taylor shirt, according to reports.
Michael E. Rhynes Jr., 33, was arrested around 12 a.m. Saturday in connection with the shooting after he was found crawling in the brush near the restaurant, WDRB reports. The police say two of the victims were white and one was black. Two died at the scene of the shooting and another died at a hospital.
“Nobody had ever seen this guy before,” the owner of the bar, Joe Bishop, told WDRB, referring to the shooter. “It was a totally random act,” he said, explaining that there was no exchange of words between the shooter and victims before the incident.
“Social media is full of people saying this happened and that happened and wanted to get political with it; there was nothing political about what happened,” Bishop, who is a retired cop, added.
The police have identified one of the victims as 24-year-old Steven Matthew Head, of Louisville. The other two men were identified as 26-year-old Toreon Jermaine Hudson and 48-year-old William Scott Smallwood.
Rhynes faces three counts of murder and is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Monday.
