They are regarded as timeless black heroes who changed the world through their works and activism.
In places like the United States, most of these inspirational black people joined hands to advance the cause of civil rights, a movement which was aimed at ending segregation in public places and banning employment discrimination on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex or national origin.
In Africa, its leaders largely worked together to gain independence for their neighbouring countries.
Despite joining hands to achieve their goals, many of these leaders would, along the way, have differences that were mainly ideological. For instance, most of the influential leaders in the black community in America, around the late 19th and 20th century, sharply disagreed on strategies for black social and economic progress.
Having come from separate backgrounds, they had different outlooks on the destiny of the African American race. Some of the relationships were so tense to the extent that parties would plot ways to sideline the works of the other.
