Former First Lady Michelle Obama has engaged in a “covert operation” by going undercover to sign copies of her latest book, “The Light We Carry.” She documented the experience at a Target store in St. Louis, Missouri, as part of efforts to promote her book.
Obama was the wife of America’s 44th president, Barack Obama, who governed between 2008 and 2016. In an Instagram post, she captioned her video “secret mission” and was seen wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses to sign her book, as reported by News.com.au.
“We are on a mission. It’s a secret mission. I had a crazy idea, I heard my paperback is out, and it’s in Target,” she said in the clip.
“So we are going to go undercover because I have not seen my book actually in a Target store. So we are going to try to do this low-key.”
Obama, after signing the six copies of her latest book, “The Light We Carry,” which serves as a follow-up to her acclaimed memoir “Becoming,” embarked on a casual stroll through the aisles of the budget store with a basket in hand.
“I got something for me, something for my husband, and something for (our dog) Sunny,” she jokes before adding, “The girls, they can get their own stuff.”
Despite ongoing speculation from both Democratic and Republican circles over the past year, representatives of Obama have consistently refuted any claims of her running in the current presidential election.
In a 2022 interview with the BBC, the former first lady expressed her strong aversion to inquiries regarding her potential candidacy for political office, stating that she “detests” such questions.
“As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” the director of communications for her office, Crystal Carson, told NBC News in a statement last month.
