The eighth annual Miss Guinea USA Pageant will provide eight young Guinean girls with the opportunity to showcase their talents, promote themselves, and celebrate their culture on Saturday, March 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the African Performing Arts Culture Center at 240 East 123rd Street, New York, NY 10035.

Each contestant will present an issue she wishes to tackle in Guinea and how she plans on solving it. The contestants will also be given the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and field questions about their platforms and career goals, leading them to gain a lifetime of economic and social opportunities.

Founded in 2008, Giving Back For Tomorrow is a nonprofit organization that seeks to help orphans and permanently displaced children in Conakry, Guinea, find safe shelter, enroll in school, and change their lives for the better.

The organization directs and manages two initiatives to achieve its goals: the Empowerment Program, a major component of the annual Miss Guinea USA Pageant, held during Women’s History Month in March and the A2Z Project, an outreach effort that collects clothes, school supplies, and canned foods to donate to a school in Guinea.

“Miss Guinea USA was founded in 2008 to promote the beauty of African culture, talents, education, and most importantly, to empower and uplift young women in the United States and Africa,” Fatima Diallo, founder and CEO of the pageant, said.

This year, Miss Guinea USA is also presenting achievement awards to three former contestants for going beyond the goals of the pageant. Therefore, two recipients are being recognized for founding their own organizations and the third recipient joined the Miss Guinea USA organization on a permanent basis.

Special guests and sponsors of the pageant include His Excellency Mamadi Toure, permanent representative of Guinea to the United Nations; Sanaba Kaba, Guinean minister of Social Action for Promotion of Women and Children; and Vanessa Gibson, a representative for Bronx Councilwomen, who will present a video message from the councilwomen.

Other sponsors include the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, Royal Air Maroc, Bronx Borough
President Ruben Diaz Jr.’s African Advisory Council, Go Africa Network, Pizzi Dishwashing, ZDW Boutique, All Flo Design, Sifla Design, Braidwood.com, Ike Decorations Company, and 3636Studios Film Production.

There will be performances by Kamara Joe, Big Lione, Al Boogs, the Foulamans Comedians, the Two Dreamerz, Bonne Fille, the Royalty Dancers, and Rica.
