WomenWerk announces the third annual WomenWerk Forum and Gala in honor of International Women’s Day (IWD) set for Saturday, March 12, in New York City. The theme of this year’s Women’s Day conference is “Leaving a Legacy” and WomenWerk invites global-mined professionals to celebrate the narratives of accomplished women making a difference in their professional and personal endeavors.

WomenWerk’s annual forum and gala is a two-part celebration. The event has attendance to capacity each year and offers access to stellar speakers from around the United States.
WomenWerk is a New York State non-profit with the mission of providing women a platform to discuss challenges to gender equity, to affirm and celebrate their individual and collective success and build their network and skills through engaging workshops.
The complete WomenWerk Forum agenda is now available at WomenWerk.com. The conference will begin with the “Leaving a Legacy” moderated panel discussion on how women identify, create, and grow a life of passion and impact.
The panel will feature Maya Wiley of N.Y.C. Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Office of Gender Equity; Amini Kajunju, president and CEO of the Africa-America Institute; Dee Poku, founder and CEO of WIE Network (WiE); Lori Adelman of Feministing.com; and Semhar Araia, founder of Diaspora African Women’s Network (DAWN) and founder of Semai Consulting.
The panel will be moderated by Samra Brouk, business development manager at the social impact non-profit DoSomething.org.
The second panel discussion at the WomenWerk Forum is a moderated panel on modern relationships and how men and women relate as women seek to leave a legacy. Moderated by Dolapo Adelapo, media personality at SaharaTV, the panel will feature Sandra Appiah, founder and vice president of Face2Face Africa; Abiola Oke, CEO of OkayAfrica; media producer and personality Toyosi Phillips; artist Laolu Senbanjo of Laolu and the Mysterics, and Lawrence Adjah of Our Family Dinner.
During the Forum, guests will have the choice to attend one of the many interactive workshops including:
● E-Commerce and Digital Marketing, led by Kelechi Anyadiegwu, CEO and founder of Zuvaa
● Civic Engagement and the 2016 Political Cycle for Women, led by Stephanie Arthur of the African Leadership Project
● Launching Your Own Media Boutique, led by Shierra Pierre-March, managing principal of Digazi Media and former chief technical officer of IrokoPartners
● Managing Your Digital Footprint, led by Christina Morillo of Women of Color in TechChat
To conclude WomenWerk’s annual Women’s Day celebration, the WomenWerk Gala invites ticketed guests to convene at a black-tie reception celebrating accomplished women from various sectors.
The 2016 keynote is Diahann Billings-Burford, executive director for Cultural Investments at Time Warner Inc. WomenWerk’s 2016 Honorees include Bisila Bokoko, CEO of BBES Int’l and the African Literacy Project as Entrepreneur of the Year; U.S. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke for the Leadership in Public Service Award; Karen Mulhauser, chairwoman of the United Nations Association and UN Women for the Lifetime Achievement Award; Blogger and Writer Luvvie Ajayi with the Image Award; Karen Sherman of Akilah Institute for Women for the Education Leadership Award; Women In Need (WIN), a homelessness and shelter non-profit for women in New York, for Service Organization of the Year. Also, Chid Liberty of Liberty and Justice will be presented with the Ally of the Year Award.
Past honorees at the WomenWerk Gala include Mo Abudu of EbonyLife TV, Bill Clinton, and the Clinton Foundation, former Nigerian Finance Minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, N.Y.C. Public Advocate Letitia James.
