This free screening exercise for cardiovascular diseases was done during activities to celebrate Cameroon’s 9th National Heart Week under the title, “Sudden Death: Dare To Save,” which falls in line with the 2014 International Heart Week.
Besides the free screening for cardiovascular diseases, a sports walk also featured prominently on the program to show the importance of physical exercise in the prevention of heart diseases.
Most of those who showed up for the screening exercise had no major problems but wanted to check and know their health situation.
Other attendees suffer from obesity, diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, and/or have suffered from minor stroke — all of which are preventable.
The Cameroonian and foreign health experts at the event advised the public on healthful lifestyles and consuming less salt, sugar, and fats as well as regular physical exercise, which can go a very long way to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
One of the health experts then concluded that if these instructions are respected by all, then 80 percent of sudden deaths recorded in Cameroon as a result of cardiovascular diseases will be greatly reduced.
