NFL player allegedly strangled girlfriend after she liked another man’s Instagram photo, police say

Tennessee Titans running back, Hassan Haskins, is facing an aggravated assault by strangulation charge in connection with a June 22 altercation with his girlfriend. According to ESPN, the NFL player’s girlfriend, Makiah Green, was also arrested and charged with aggravated assault by strangulation and felony vandalism.

Haskins was later released on a $10,000 bond while his girlfriend was also released after posting a $7,500 bond. “We are aware of the situation and gathering additional information,” the Titans announced in a statement last Friday. The arrest affidavit of the June 22 incident was shared on Twitter by Scoop: Nashville

Authorities stated that the couple got into an argument after Green clicked “like” on a “picture of a male on Instagram.” Green said she ended up going into the closet and “began to throw the suspect’s shoes down to the floor.”

Haskins, 20, also made his way into the closet, asked Green to “stop touching his things, and pushed the victim to the ground, causing the victim to hit the back of her head,” the affidavit stated.

Green told the police that she “fought back and kicked” Haskins, so he “grabbed” her and “took her out of the closet, pushed her on top of the bed, and began to strangle her with both hands.” She also said that she believed her boyfriend strangled her for about 10 to 15 seconds.

Green said she later “stood up and slapped” Haskins after he released her, adding that he “slapped her back” and “threw her to the ground, causing her to fall on top of her dog crate.” Haskins then “proceeded to strangle her for the second time,” the affidavit stated.

“The victim stated the suspect let her go and then left the house. The victim has pictures of small bruising to her right cheek of face, scratch to her left side of neck, red in front of neck, and a bruise to her right upper arm near the shoulder.”

Haskins has also been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The arrest affidavit for that incident stated that Haskins and Green got into an argument while eating at a steak house “because they are in the middle of a break-up.”

Green told police that she took an Uber home after Haskins left the restaurant. “When Ms. Green got home, Mr. Haskins was already inside. Ms. Green stated she was mad and grabbed a glass cup and threw it, shattering it,” the affidavit stated.

Green said she subsequently entered a bedroom and locked the door before Haskins later broke it in half. They later started arguing again, and she broke a necklace that Haskins was wearing.

As a result, Haskins also went for her phone and damaged it, the affidavit stated, adding that Green later took his “old iPhone 12 so she could call her mom.” “Ms. Green stated when she turned Mr. Haskins Iphone on, chats and nude pictures from other women started popping up in his Snapchat,” the affidavit stated.

“Ms. Green stated this made her more upset, so she threw his phone, also damaging the screen. Ms. Green stated Mr. Haskins came into the room she was in and she began to slap his chest because she was mad at everything that was happening.”

Green later went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife to slash his tires, per the affidavit. Green stated that as she was making her way to the garage, she “heard Mr. Haskins cock his gun and said ‘I hope you would.’” She put the knife down shortly after that.

Though Haskins’ account of the incident was the same as Green’s, he stated that she hit him with a broom, jumped on him, and also strangled him from behind. Haskins said he managed to pull Green off him, adding that she also damaged his PS5 and “caused a hole on the wall” after she threw it from upstairs.

The affidavit also stated that Haskins “has several video footage where Ms. Green is seen holding a broom and hitting Mr. Haskins with it.” “Ms. Green is seen hitting him multiple times with her hands and also throwing a bottle of water at Mr. Haskins. Mr. Haskins had a red bump to his back that he believes was from being hit with the broom,” the affidavit stated. “He also had small red marks on his right arm, which he said could have come from being hit multiple times by Ms. Green.”

Haskins said his PS5 is worth $500, while his iPhone 12 and necklace are valued at $800 and $5,000 respectively. His court date has been set for July 10.
