Nigeria’s Kaduna State celebrates a century in style and culture [Photos]

The northern Nigerian state of Kaduna celebrated its 100-year anniversary with a culturally grand and colorful durbar over the weekend. The durbar, which took place at the Murtala Square in Kaduna was attended by high ranking government officials and diplomats as well as emirs and chiefs from far and wide.

Prior to the durbar, the weeklong centenary celebrations was also filled with activities including a historical exhibition and gala night.

The horse parade was the highlight of the durbar and saw thousands of people on decorated horses flaunting their horsemanship skills to the excitement of the audience.

Elegantly dressed chiefs on horsebacks rode past the crowd with hundreds of their subjects following them in style. They were led by royal guards wielding muskets, bows and arrows.
