Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot not too long after he announced a collaboration between Puma and his ‘The Marathon Clothing’ label. Though the Eritrean-American rapper is no more, his clothing label and the apparel giant continue to release products under their collaboration. His former girlfriend, Lauren London, is also a brand ambassador for the highly successful clothing line.
Outside business, the German apparel giant has also been unconditionally supporting the deceased rapper’s two children. In an interview with Earn Your Leisure, Nipsey’s brother, Blacc Sam, revealed that Puma makes annual deposits into the trust fund of the slain rapper’s two children, Complex reported.
“After everything, they came back to the table and made sure the kids was set up straight,” Sam said. “It had nothing to do with sales of clothes or the success of the capsules, just off the top every year they hit the kids in the trust fund. They did right for Hussle.”
Collections under the Puma and TMC collaboration are released at least once a year. Sam explained how Puma has allowed them to stick to the original contract agreed with Nipsey.
“They allowed us to also do the collabs and do it the way we wanna do it. It’s not about selling a lot of units or printing up a lot of t-shirts and going wild. It’s just let’s do it tasteful, let’s come in with the Hussle way,” he said.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Nipsey, born Ermias Asghedom, was fatally shot outside his Marathon Clothing store in his South-Central Los Angeles neighborhood in March 2019. The man accused of killing him, Eric Holder, was recently sentenced to 60 years in prison over his murder.
At the start of his trial in June, prosecutors told the court that Holder’s actions were planned and premeditated. Deputy District Attorney, John McKinney, alleged Holder was well aware he was going to take the rapper’s life. “Nipsey was struck at least ten times,” McKinney said, adding that Holder also kicked the Victory Lap rapper’s head before fleeing the scene.
