Oscars: Black conservative TV host slammed for criticizing acceptance speech in Korean

Jon Miller, an African-American host at the conservative TV network Blaze, took to Twitter to denounce what he believes is the awfulness of multiculturalism at the 2020 Academy Awards.

Miller tweeted:

A man named Bong Joon Ho wins #Oscar for best original screenplay over Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and 1917. Acceptance speech was: “GREAT HONOR. THANK YOU.” Then he proceeds to give the rest of his speech in Korean. These people are the destruction of America.

This was after the Academy had awarded the prize for Best Original Screenplay to Korean director Bong Joon-ho and co-writer Han Jin-won for the film, Parasite.

Quite predictably, Miller was met with fierce condemnation from individuals from different aspects of American life.

Even after he sought to clarify that his tweet was aimed at multicultural appreciation by Hollywood and not against Koreans, Miller did not help himself.

Musician John Legend led the charge against Miller, tweeting: Do they pay you for these dumb takes or is this something you do for fun [?]

Others added to Miller’s misery, with most of the comments describing him or his opinion as racist. The elephant in the room, however, was the fact that Miller is black.

Although many had no problem calling Miller a racist, what simmered beneath the outrage was collective wondering about whether black people could be called “racist”.

This deficiency in certitude showed in another criticism aimed at Miller from popular black Twitter personality, Feminista Jones.

Jones tweeted about Miller losing his “black ass mind” but stopped short of calling him racist:

*writes in notepad* Column: Have Lost Their Natural Black Ass Minds Entry: Jon Miller Column: Being Left Behind When The Mothership Comes to Reclaim Is Entry: Jon Miller.

Yet, for others, Miller being a political conservative and a supporter of Donald Trump, meant that he could be summed up in the same category as the infamous MAGA racists.
