Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Current appoints 1st Black president, here is all you need to know about her

Kansas City Current, which is co-owned by Patrick Mahomes, has appointed veteran sports professional Raven Jemison as team president. She will oversee all business operations ahead of the team’s first season in the CPKC Stadium.

Jemison succeeds the team’s first president Allison Howard, making her the first Black person to hold the position. “I am so excited to come to Kansas City to work with Angie and Chris and this club,” Jemison said in an official statement. “They have a vision and desire to make this the best women’s football club in the world, and they are willing to invest what it takes to make that happen. I am so excited by the opportunity to utilize my experiences to build this club at a time when both it and the league are already on the rise.”

Before her current appointment, she was the Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks. Her three-year tenure at the Bucks has been considered a success as she achieved both on and off the court.

She led the Bucks to win their division every year of her tenure and the NBA Championship in 2021. She also helped the team to achieve tremendous growth across all major departments off the court, helping to build out the team’s data analytics and digital marketing, according to the statement by Kansas City Current.

Meanwhile, her career in sports started in the NHL as a Client Services Manager for the Florida Panthers. She later worked with the Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB) and San Francisco 49ers (NFL) before joining the NBA in the Team Marketing & Business Operations department.

When she joined the NBA, she immediately proved to be a vital addition to the league. She used her skills, knowledge, and experience to help grow the entire league while providing valuable insight to specific teams with the NBA, WNBA, and G-League, the statement by Kansas City said. She became more focused on the business operations of the teams, like ticketing, partnership sales, and marketing.

Today, she is the Team President of Kansas City Current, which was founded in December 2020. The team is currently co-owned by Angie Long, Chris Long, Brittany Mahomes, and Patrick Mahomes. The team competes in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
