On this day in 1920, the Anthony Amendment on the 19th Amendment to the United States of America constitution took effect.
This Amendment granted women the right to vote, prohibiting any United States citizen to be denied the right to vote based on sex. It was ratified on August 18, 1920, after a long struggle known as the women’s suffrage movement.
Today, the subject on whether or not to allow women to participate in voting is no longer a topic that is discussed. Other more advanced discussions have taken over but then, there is no denying the fact that quite a number of iconic people, mostly women, led and are leading the fight and the struggle towards such a great feat.
There are many names that come to mind but here, Face2Face Africa brings you the list of black women who were and are at the forefront of spearheading rights of women.
