Racist and Islamophobic tweets cost Trump-loving Miss Michigan 2019 her crown

Former Miss Michigan 2019 and Trump supporter Kathy Zhu got served a dose of karma after her crown was stripped of her by organizers of Miss World America after old racist and Islamophobic posts she shared on her Twitter page resurfaced.

The since-deleted Tweets, which cost her a spot as a Miss World America participant were described as “offensive, insensitive and inappropriate” by the organizers.

Zhu, who according to Think Progress is the vice president of the University of Michigan chapter of the College Republicans and communications director for the Chinese Americans for Trump Movement announced her dethronement on Twitter.

“Miss World America’s State/National/Chief Director accused me of being racist, Islamaphobic, and insensitive,” she shared.

“They stripped me of my Miss Michigan title due to my refusal to try on a hijab in 2018, my tweet about black on black gun violence, and “insensitive” statistical tweets.”

According to Think Progress, the first insensitive Tweet dates back to last year after she refused an offer to wear a hijab when the Muslim Student Association was celebrating World Hijab Day.

“There is a ‘try a hijab on’ booth at my college campus,” she reportedly wrote. “So you’re telling me that it’s now just a fashion accessory and not a religious thing? Or are you just trying to get women used to being oppressed under Islam?”

In another Tweet during the same event, she also reportedly chastised a sign at the Muslim Student Association table that said: “My hijab empowers me.”

“The hypocrisy of this is kind of disgusting,” she allegedly shared.

In the second incident, Zhu took a dig at black on black murders in a reply to a Tweet.

“Did you know the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks? Fix problems within your own community before blaming others,” she said.

Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Zhu suggested she was singled out because of her political affiliation.

“I have seen this happen before,” she said. “It is just not okay to be prejudiced against people who just have a different political view as you.”

She also tried to explain the rationale behind her Tweets.

“I said that it was (getting women used to) being oppressed because there are so many women in Middle Eastern countries that are being punished and stoned for refusing to wear a hijab,” Zhu said about the hijab incident. “Nobody is talking about that in the West because all they see is everyone being at peace, but that is the beauty of America.”

About the black on black murders, she told the Free Press: “This applies for every community.”

“If there is a problem, fix things in your own community before lashing out at others and trying to find an issue there. That is all I wanted to say. It is not a problem against black people. Obviously I am not racist or stuff like that.”

A well-known and outspoken Trump fan, an unapologetic and unremorseful Zhu, in the aftermath of the incident, expressed gratitude for the support she received.

“I woke up this morning with an overwhelming amount of support; I can’t thank you all enough,” she Tweeted.

“I am glad this story came to light because this is more than just some beauty pageant, this is about the prejudice views against people with “different opinions””.
