Khartoum-Port Sudan Railway
Commonly known as the Nile Train, the Khartoum-Port Sudan Railway is a 782-kilometer railroad connecting Port Sudan to the capital, Khartoum, through the Atbara route. The $1.5 billion project currently ends near the Nile River in Khartoum, but future lines are expected to connect the railway to neighboring countries like Chad.
Fifty years ago, Sudan was home to Africa’s largest railway network, with more than 5,000 kilometers of track running from the Egyptian border to Darfur in the west, Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast, and Wau in what is now South Sudan.
The Khartoum-Port Sudan Railway is expected to improve transport across the country and boost the country’s main exports, including livestock, cotton, and gum Arabic.

I think the investment is great, but I believe that much more will be needed, considering that Africa is years away from having a continent-wide railway network.
