Abuja-Kaduna Railway
The Abuja-Kaduna Railway is the first phase of the planned Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge Railway project scheduled to run from Nigeria’s capital, Lagos, to Kano State, near the Nigeria-Niger border.
The Abuja-Kaduna segment is already complete and services commenced in July 2016. The entire project, which was awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation in 2006, is estimated to cost $8.3 billion.
With the British-built Cape gauge line now in a pathetic state, Nigeria needs a modern railroad that will ease movement across the country. The 187-kilometer railway, from Abuja to Kaduna, has an operating speed of 100 km/h and is expected to improve the current freight traffic on the old railroad from around 100,000 tons to 800,000 tons.

I think the investment is great, but I believe that much more will be needed, considering that Africa is years away from having a continent-wide railway network.
