Rihanna, the award-winning singer turned makeup mogul and actress called out Alabama male lawmakers and the female Governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey for approving a ban on abortion in the state.
Rihanna posted their photos and used colourful words to describe them on her social media pages in opposition to the signing and approval of the bill this week.
“take a look. these are the idiots making decisions for WOMEN in America.
Governor Kay Ivey…SHAME ON YOU!!!!” she posted.
The new law has been described as the nation’s most restrictive abortion legislation under the Alabama Human Life Protection Act.
Passed on Wednesday, May 15, the law includes a ban on abortion in cases of rape or incest and a possible life imprisonment sentence for doctors who perform abortions. The bill has been highly criticized by people in the U.S. however their complaint has since gone unheard. Alabama’s 35-seat Senate is dominated by men, and none of its four female senators backed the ban.
Rihanna’s post which has gained over a million likes and 40,000 comments in a matter of 3 hours has gotten people talking about the new abortion ban and has led other famous people to add their voice against the new law.
Watching our own government be immune to our experience, and the social temperature regarding abortion is another fatal failure for humanity. This is deadly.— h (@halsey) May 16, 2019
