There is no doubt that Africa remains the fastest growing continent in the world as several emerging markets keep rubbing shoulders on the world stage when it comes to fashion, entertainment, science, and technology. But despite such growth, the continent keeps battling with the scourge of graduate unemployment. Still, 40-year-old Sosu Patrick is defying all odds as a successful — and stylish — roasted plantain and coconut vendor in Ghana.
Food vending in Ghana and elsewhere across Africa remains a business almost exclusively conducted by women. Yet Patrick works to woo prospective buyers to his business with his selective formal outfits, displaying both style and branding!
Pictures of Patrick taken by Ghanaian photographer Kobby Blay show him attending to clients (both local and foreign) in a suit, white shirt, and a beaded tie of Ghana’s flag colors that is topped off with a wide-brimmed leather hat.
In an interview with Blay, Patrick revealed, “It was my dream that this was going to be [my] breakthrough. I have some other children too, and they are in school where I hail from. I have a quite a large farm and will soon complete my house.”
Patrick’s success story follows that of Nigerian college drop-out A
