South African artist breaks Guinness World Record for largest coffee sketch in the world [Photos]

A man from South African has won a spot in the Guinness World Record after he successfully created the largest mosaic made from coffee.

Percy Maimela created a picture of his compatriot, DJ Black Coffee, using nothing but ground coffee in what is now a remarkable feat.

The coffee sketch was exhibited for a few days at Sandton City before being moved, reports This Is Africa.

“This was my first experiment with coffee and it came out perfect. I love what I do, whatever goes on in my mind it’s magic, I actually talk to the art, but I couldn’t because it’s public,” Maimela said of his achievement to eNCA.

Channel 24 reports that without any formal qualification in the art, Maimela took a huge risk, quitting his retail job to focus on his craft.

Sound Idea Sessions described how the artist completed his picture on a 5×5 meter canvas, adding that the sheet had to be “100% covered in ground coffee with zero negative space in order to qualify for the Guinness World Record title.”

He also dedicated his achievement and the global feat to every South African who is still scared of chasing their dreams, hoping that this will urge them to go all out and excel.

According to MSN, Maimela explained that “It’s not about me. It’s about all of us using our potential to create what we can. I am an artist but someone else might be a soccer player. If you’re a soccer player, for example, focus on what you’re doing and ensure you’re enjoying it”.

Right from a very young age, Maimela has had a keen interest in art, growing that interest by constantly practising through painting, trying out pencil and pen drawings, as well as, paper mache.
