Teyana Taylor and M.A.C Cosmetics partner for ’90s inspired makeup collection

It is so surreal to see your childhood dreams become a reality. It is okay to dream big and that is exactly what Teyana Taylor did. She is the newest celebrity to have a collection with M.A.C Cosmetics following in the footsteps of Rihanna and Aaliyah.

The partnership between the cosmetics brand and the singer, choreographer, director and entrepreneur was pretty much slated to happen but even Taylor did not know when that would be till now. According to her, at age 15, she would play with M.A.C products and come up with her own mixture even as a teen.

Riding on that, the journey to creating the Teyana Taylor x M.A.C Cosmetics collection began on 125th Street in Harlem, Taylor’s birthplace in M.A.C Cosmetics store.

“I used to walk down that block on 125th, and stop at the MAC store and just stare at the campaigns,” she told ELLE.com. Captivated by the collaborations with other musicians over the years, Taylor “couldn’t wait for that to be me, for real.” The wait is over for sure as the much-dreamed-of partnership is finally here.

Now is the time we position ourselves in a space where we can identify with and feel more at home and where we do not have to struggle to belong, and the iconic cosmetics brand has a track record of celebrating women of color.

The likes of Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, and late singers Aaliyah and Selena Quintanilla-Pérez have had previous collections with the brand.

In a statement, Taylor said, “I’ve been a fan of M.A.C. ever since I was 15 years old and started experimenting with makeup. It was the first brand that made me like makeup.

“I am so grateful and excited to be sharing this beautiful collection I created with the M.A.C team but also hoping to inspire other young women that anything and everything is possible.”

The collection was inspired by Teyana’s love for the 90s and the heart and soul of Harlem. M.A.C posted a photo of the 29-year-old spotting a geometric high-top fade, bold eyebrows, and glossy lips that resemble a page out of a classic 90s style book.

According to Ukonwa Ojo, global chief marketing officer and senior vice president of global marketing at M.A.C Cosmetics, Taylor’s eclectic, bold style is “unlike anyone else.”

“She’s fierce, bold and unapologetically herself, no matter what she’s wearing—all qualities we stand for at M.A.C—and are so excited to bring to life through this new collaboration,” she added.

The release date for the collection is not out yet, but we sure will dig deep into our pockets anytime the M.A.C x Teyana Taylor collaboration drops.
