The 6-year-old daughter of George Floyd, Gianna, has been gifted with Disney shares from Grammy award-winning singer, Barbra Streisand.
Ever since the death of her father, who passed away on Memorial Day after a Minneapolis cop was filmed kneeling on his neck for several minutes, Gigi has been shown a tremendous amount of love and support.
Sharing the news on her Instagram page, Gigi thanked Streisand for her wonderful gesture. In a series of photos, a smiling Gigi is seen showing the share certificate as well as two albums – My Name Is Barbra and Color Me Barbra – the singer and actress gifted her.
“Thank You @barbrastreisand for my package, I am now a Disney Stockholder thanks to you,” she captioned.
In a statement to CNN, a representative for Streisand confirmed the gift was from the 78-year-old, though she did not reveal the number of shares purchased.
“We confirm the information in the recent Instagram by George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna, concerning a gift to her from Barbra Streisand,” the statement said.
The singer, in the statement, was also quoted as saying: “I sent Gianna videos where I played a little girl in my first television special singing kid songs and my second special a sequence with lots of baby animals.”
Gigi’s recent gift comes on the back of Texas Southern University (TSU) granting her a full scholarship in case she decides to attend the institution.
“The Board of Regents of Texas Southern University (TSU) honors the memory of George Floyd on the day that he is laid to eternal rest,” the university said in a statement after Floyd’s funeral on June 9. “Mr. Floyd was a lifelong citizen of the Third Ward and a revered graduate of Jack Yates High School. The Board, in conjunction with the TSU Foundation Board, has approved a fund to provide a full scholarship for Floyd’s beloved daughter, Gianna. TSU’s executive and academic staff will prepare a place for Miss Floyd if she wishes to attend the University.”
Rapper and business mogul Kanye West has also created a tuition fund to cover her college education, to which the 6-year-old shared her gratitude on Instagram on Monday.
A GoFundMe set up for her has also surpassed its $2,000,000 goal.
