The United Nations Development Program releases the Human Development Index annually to highlight the status of the world.
In the 2018 Index, the UN agency states that there has been considerable progress in development in the world, but this has been marred by consistent disparities and deprivations.
It sampled 189 countries in the world, including 33 countries from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Ranked at #54 globally, Bahamas topped the list of Carribean countries.
It ranked favourably in the HDI’s indices which include life expectancy (75.8 years), education (11.1 average years spent in school against 12.8 expected years) and standard of living ($26,681 gross national income per capita).
