Last December, a 4-year-old boy in Chicago was reported to have read 100 books in one day, a goal he personally wanted to achieve with the support of his parents who streamed it live on Facebook.
Though the shocking development did not gain much traction in the media, it awakened the need for children now more than ever to get a strong reading foundation.
Eight months on, another video of a 4-year-old boy giving a speech about the benefits of reading at a middle school teachers’ back to school training has emerged.
Even though the source of the video, which has been shared widely on social media platforms like Twitter, is yet to be ascertained, it is turning the tides on talks about how to create a reading culture.
Parents and teachers have often been the ones complaining of how modern generation of children lack interest in reading books, particularly, those outside their respective courses of study but would rather stay glued to their electronic gadgets such as mobile phones, television, and computers.
They have been urging such children to adopt the fruitful habit of reading as it will not only expose them to proper grammar and phrasing but will broaden their knowledge and enhance their ability to express themselves verbally.
Now, children are those leading this charge and are asking parents and teachers to assist them in this regard, as shown in the video below:
