These are the most dangerous African countries for women

Lots of women in Somalia are living in hell, human rights groups say — Peace Insight

Somalia

This is the first most dangerous African country for women and the fourth in the world. After more than 20 years of conflict, the country’s economy, infrastructure and institutions have been largely destroyed and people still have to live with threats from the militant group, Al-Shabaab.

Currently, Somalia is ranked amongst the ten poorest countries in the world, with 43 per cent of its 12.3 million people living in extreme poverty.

According to the Thomson Reuters Foundation survey, the country ranks as the third most dangerous in terms of access to healthcare and risk of exposure to harmful cultural and traditional practices. Almost all women aged 15 to 49 years (98%) have been subjected to female genital mutilation, with 77% undergoing the extreme form, according to UNICEF.

The country further ranked fifth in terms of access to economic resources. The main source of livelihood in the country now is livestock management.
