In August 20017, a day after the Mayor Derrick Henry of Daytona Beach said symbols and memorials connected to the Confederacy should be removed from the city property, two plaques with names of Confederate soldiers were removed.
“I don’t see them as having any positive place in the future of our city. I don’t think they need to have a prominent place in public life if it is in homage to the Confederacy. – Henry said.
Still in Florida, the monument to fallen Confederate soldiers in Gainsville was removed. The 113-year-old statue, nicknamed “Old Joe,” was at the front of the Alachua County Administration Building. Another Confederate veterans monument was removed in Bradenton after 93 years.
