Nigeria

This year is the 70th anniversary of the Open Doors Report by the IIE in partnership with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA).

The number one spot on the African continent is held by Nigeria, with 13,423 students currently studying in the US in the 2019/209 academic session resulting in a positive 5.8 per cent increase.

According to the report, the figures represent 33 percent of the overall African students in the U.S., hence making Nigeria the leading place of students from the continent and 11th largest country worldwide among the top 25 leading places of origin for international students.

Nigerians are enrolled in more than 1,000 institutions in 51 states and territories in the United States, out of which 18 percent are studying in Texas.
