It seems every day we’re bombarded with situations where racism plays a huge factor. From incidents at eateries to fatal shootings involving people of color as the main fatalities; there is certainly a disturbing trend. It isn’t slowing down either; keep reading to learn of some racist displays within the last year that are fueling the race war.
KKK actively recruiting using newspapers ads
The Westmoreland News In Philadelphia is under heavy fire for featuring a full advertisement in their newspaper. The gag is, it was from the Ku Klux Klan and it was requesting new members. It wasn’t devoid of derogatory and discriminating language either.
The newspaper made sure to “distance” themselves from the madness by adding the following disclaimer, “Westmoreland News in no way condones or supports the content or message of this flyer, nor does it condone or support any branch of the Loyal White Knights, or the KKK.”
Yet, they still approved and ran the ad.
Black people use shampoo too…
23-year-old singer/songwriter Halsey is calling hotels across the U.S. to task. The artist tweeted last Thursday the following, “I’ve been traveling for years now and it’s been so frustrating that the hotel toiletry industry entirely alienates people of color. I can’t use this perfumed watered down white people shampoo. Neither can 50% of ur customers. Annoying.”
And of course, Twitter users of the White persuasion responded by suggesting that she buy her own and insisting she’s part of the problem.
No issue of white privilege here…
Mentally ill and instead of getting help, the victim gets tased by cops
Wisconsin police tased 22-year-old Adam Trammel 18 times causing his death.
Law enforcement was called on May 25, 2017, to a call of a man naked in a hallway speaking non-sensibly; Trammel was the subject of the call. The residence where he lived was known for housing those with psychiatric challenges.
Trammel was a schizophrenic.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm chose not to bring charges against police officers Anthony Munoz and Michael Rohleder – those who used 18 shots from their stun gun to kill Trammel.
Trammel’s cause of death was ruled as “excited delirium” with the use of sedatives (as a result of his medication) and stun gun use as contributing factors.
Waffle House at it again
A Waffle House restaurant in Pinson, Alabama is currently under investigation for not allowing Jacinda Mitchell entry. She shares a video which clearly shows white patrons enjoying their meals. A cook was also sighted making meals for customers.
To add insult to injury, Mitchell is threatened with physical assault.
Pat Warner, the director of public relations and external affairs for Waffle House released the following statement: “We have launched an investigation to gather all of the facts,” Warner said. “Waffle House is a welcoming place for everyone, and we are fortunate to enjoy a very diverse and loyal customer base who we do our best to serve every day. The employee involved should not have locked the front door at all and should have certainly opened the door for the customer when she arrived. We will get the facts and take appropriate action quickly.”
This incident follows another in which a black woman in another Waffle House is slammed on the floor by police.
Social status is no factor
Prior NFL player Desmond Marrow is one of the latest victims of police brutality.
In December 2017 Henry County, Georgia police are shown in footage released by Marrow of throwing him on the ground and choking him.
Marrow was stopped under the guise of driving aggressively. Police also thought he had a weapon in his pocket which turned out to be a mobile phone.
Marrow was charged with making terroristic threats, aggressive driving and reckless driving.
So is everything still being “turned into a discrimination issue” or not?
