Lia Lee is the founder of the Black woman-owned beverage firm UNLIT™. The all-natural, vegan, hangover recovery beverage line uses superfood ingredients to rejuvenate the body.
A national survey by RAND found that the rate of alcohol consumption has increased by 14% in 2020 among people who are 30 years compared to 2019. This means that more millennials who spend the night out are likely to wake up with a hangover.
Lee has had a fair share of hangovers after a night out. In other to deal with the problem, she thought of creating something that will help her rebalance herself and that of many who have experienced the same after a night out. This led her to create UNLIT™ as an adaptogen recovery drink that effectively helps young professionals to balance work, a social life, and everything else in between, according to Black Business.
On its website, UNLIT says it is a “minority, women-owned company on a mission to help rebalance your mind, body, and soul. UNLIT is a delicious way to reclaim your mornings and gives your body the good it needs to thrive.”
“It is everything that your body needs to fight hangover and replenish its natural stores. It is a tasty way to rebalance your headspace, recharge your morning and refuel your body,” it adds.
Their four delicious beverages are created with a ‘bio-availability first approach to provide the necessary energy levels lost after exercise, late nights, and hangovers.
They include Gold Digger, which has the sweet taste of mango and coconut with the healing pang of ginger, Got The Blues, which is a mixture of cucumber, watermelon, mint, and lime. Drop The Best, which is a mixture of beet and strawberry that brings back the fiery energy and to your life, and Black Magic, which is a bouquet of flowers with a dash of charcoal lemonade.
In recent days, her company has attracted attention from a multinational beverage firm, Coca-Cola. This was after she made the cut as a semi-finalist in the BevNET 2021 New Beverage Showdown, a pitch competition organized by Venturing and Emerging Brands (VEB). VEB is the Coca-Cola business unit that identifies and develops a portfolio of brands with billion-dollar potential.
