Anti-malaria soap
Malaria is still one of the biggest health problems in Africa, accounting for some 90 percent of cases and deaths.
The costs of health services to diagnose it, drugs to treat it, and its effect on productivity continue to be the bane of economic progress on the continent.
People were, therefore, elated when two African students created a malaria-repellant soap using local herbs.
Moctar Dembélé who hails from Burkina Faso and Gérard Niyondiko, from Burundi said they chose soap as a way to protect a wide variety of users because it is low cost and widely used by people of all backgrounds, hence doesn’t require people to accept a whole new behaviour.
Known as Faso Soap, the inventors at the time said they hope to complete testing in time to introduce the soap by 2018.
