Norman Manley
Norman Manley was a Jamaican statesman and political leader who played a key role in the country’s independence movement. Born in Roxborough, Jamaica, in 1893, Manley founded the People’s National Party and served as Jamaica’s chief minister and later, its first premier. He was instrumental in the negotiations that led to Jamaica’s independence from Great Britain in 1962. Manley’s legacy as a champion of Jamaican independence and democracy continues to inspire political leaders in Jamaica and throughout the Caribbean.
