Who wouldn’t want to live in a just society where high standards are adhered to in the judicial system and the rule of law is not tampered with?
It is believed that countries that have a fairer and faster legal system function very well and attract the needed investment both at home and abroad. Yet, in many African countries, the judicial system is slow and mostly unfair as courts that work effectively are hard to find while some judges take ages to resolve disputes or lack independence.
The good news is that some African countries have, over the years, produced some of the best courts and an independent judiciary that has made the continent proud. This, among others, was contained in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Competitiveness Index 2017-2018 that carried out a research in 137 countries around the world, considering factors like the independence of the judicial system from the government, individuals or corporate influence.
