Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia with an estimated 33.4 million speakers. It is the second most spoken Semitic language in the world. According to history, the language dates back to the 1st millennium B.C. i.e the days of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba.
The language is written in a slightly modified version of the alphabets with over 30 different characters. Amharic is one of the main languages of Ethiopia with the second being the Oromo.
