Uncomfy? Bun B jokingly recalls Jay-Z kicking him off Beyoncé’s music video set

We all know Jay-Z doesn’t play no games when it comes to his woman, so it comes as no surprise the billionaire rapper and business mogul took a little “precautionary” measure while his then-girlfriend was on set shooting a music video.

In an interview with Sama’an Ashrawi on his The Nostalgia Mixtape, legendary rapper Bun B jokingly recalled when Jay-Z had him and fellow Houston rapper Slim Thug kicked off the set while they were shooting the music video for her 2005 hit single, Check On It – a song they featured on.

According to the one half of UGK, Hov wasn’t too comfy with them being around while she was shooting her parts of the video because of her…well…revealing wardrobe.

“This is in New York. So we’re on the set and we’re filming the video, and if you look at the video, there’s a lot of kind of skimpy outfits. Queenie [Bun B’s wife] is there also, so it’s not like I’m there salivating over another woman,” he recalled. “But we’re like, ‘Whoa, this is crazy. Beyoncé’s dancing in this short skirt and she’s dancing in like a bikini,’ type of thing, you know.”

He continued: “While all of this was happening, I think this is the scene with the chair, so it’s like her and several other girls and they all have these short skirts on and they’re all dancing seductively on the chair. They’ve got a leg up on the chair so you can kind of see some thigh and maybe a little bit of butt if you’re staring hard enough, and Jay-Z calls and talks to one of her assistants.”

“If I had to guess it would’ve been her cousin Angie that he would’ve talked to because Angie has always been a right hand to Beyoncé. He’s like, ‘Yeah how’s the video going, what’s going good, are the guys there?’ All the guys that are with us are the only men there. Well, let me say this: there were other men there, but they weren’t straight.”

Bun B added that after the 4:44 rapper got to know there were so many men on set while his then-girlfriend was performing, he asked her assistants to clear them off the stage.

“So they immediately come over to us and they kick all of us out to our dressing rooms and we’re told to stay there until we have to shoot. We’re not allowed to watch Beyoncé dance anymore,” he said.

The Trill OG, however, said there were no hard feelings and Queen Bey later came over to apologize.

“‘I’m so sorry you guys had to leave the room but Jay’s not comfortable,’” he recalled. “And we’re all like, ‘We understand fully, that’s no problem, we’re happy to be here.’”

Glad to know it was all love! You can listen to the rapper’s recollection of the story from the 40-minute mark below.

While you’re still here, why don’t we just bring back the Hype Williams-directed music video for some much-needed nostalgia? Enjoy!
