On Monday, 125 students arrived at Boston Logan International Airport as part of a joint program being conducted between the Nigerian government and the Consortium of North American Universities (CNAU)’s U.S. Pathway Program (USPP) that selects “talented” Nigerian high school graduates and then enrolls them in fall and spring terms in Nigeria before sending them abroad to the United States to attend a university for their Bachelor’s degree in three years.
“Available at a brand-new college in Lagos, USPP offers successful students admission to a US college or university, a year of course credits towards a bachelor’s degree, writing preparation, and a supportive learning environment.”
All of the selected students receive a full scholarship, which covers tuition, books, room, and board.
The students were accompanied by Kingsley Kuku, special adviser to Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, who said of the program, “This is what the country can give back to a people who have contributed so much to put that country together in terms of economic revival as a country.”
