‘We are taking over’ – Angel Reese is officially a professional sports team owner

After an amazing collegiate career at LSU, Angel Reese is now a WNBA player who was drafted into the league as the seventh overall pick, joining the Chicago Sky. Aside from playing basketball, Reese has always dreamt of owning a professional sports team, and today, she is living her dream.

As per The Athletic, Reese has become a professional sports owner, joining the ownership group of DC Power Football Club, Washington, DC’s new professional women’s soccer team. The soccer team will begin competing in the USL Super League in summer 2024.

“I want to help grow women’s sports and elevate female athletes across the board,” Reese said in a statement. “We’re taking over, and I’m honored to be able to support Power FC and invest in women’s soccer in the DMV community.”

“Angel’s decision to be a founding investor alongside us in Power FC is groundbreaking,” D.C. United CEO and Co-Chairman Jason Levien added. “As a Maryland native, Angel is so passionate about being a catalyst for positive change in women’s sports in the DMV as well as globally, while inspiring the next generation of female athletes. We’re looking forward to her partnership in the boardroom as an equity partner.” “

Reese cashed in on her popularity off the court while at LSU. On her official website, she was selling merchandise in addition to signing lucrative deals with powerful brands.

In 2023, a report from SponsorUnited stated that the former LSU star had the most NIL deals of any college basketball player. At the time, she had signed 17 NIL deals totaling $392,000 per year with brands such as Calvin Klein, Bose, JanSport, McDonald’s, Xfinity, and Coach, among others.

The multiple deals she signed put her net worth at an estimated $1.3 million per year, CNBC reported, citing sports media platform On3.

In addition to playing in the WNBA and owning a club, Reese has a foundation that seeks to empower girls and women through sports, education, financial literacy, and other initiatives.
