U.S. gymnastics champion Simone Biles just made history again by becoming the first woman to claim seven national titles. The 24-year-old won her seventh national women’s all-around title at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, with a score of 119.650. This makes her the woman with the most U.S. gymnastics titles.
Her score was 4.7 points ahead of Sunisa Lee, who came in second place with 100.250. The third-place winner was Jordan Chiles with 114.450 points.
Biles did not only take gold for the all-around but also won the vault, balance beam and floor exercise titles. The last woman to win three titles was gymnast Kim Zmeskal in the 1990s, according to the Olympics.
“I feel like every single championship stands out for a different reason, but this one stands out specifically because it’s the road to Tokyo,” Biles said of her win. “We came out here, and we did what we were supposed to.”
The four-time Olympic gold medalist won her first U.S. Championship title in 2013 and has since won every all-around competition she has entered.
Biles recently made headlines as the first woman in history to land a Yurchenko double pike in competition. According to CNN, the Yurchenko double pike — a high-difficulty skill historically only done by men — is a roundoff onto the springboard, followed by a back handspring onto the vaulting table, and ending with a piked double backflip into the air to landing.
Biles’ victory from the weekend officially qualifies her for the Tokyo Olympics which will begin in July. She is set to compete as part of the USA Women’s Gymnastics Team.
“I feel like I did try to enjoy it, because it could be one of my last championships that I’ll attend,” Biles shared after her historic win Sunday. “But it’s also the road to Tokyo, and after this we have trials, so we just have to really embrace the moment.”
