Wendy Williams has been dealing with symptoms linked to Graves’ disease and now a doctor has advised the syndicated talk show host to take a hiatus from her daytime talk show, according to a post from her official Twitter account.
“In consultation with her doctor and as a precautionary measure, she will be taking some time off as she continues to receive treatment,” the announcement reads. “We look forward to welcoming Wendy back soon and continuing the Wendy@Home shows. More updates on a return date will follow.”
Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that targets the thyroid. It causes an overactive enlarged thyroid (hyperthyroidism) that leads to rapid weight loss, fatigue, anxiety and many more according to the Mayo Clinic’s website.
This is not the first time the show is going on a hiatus. In February 2018, Williams’ struggle with the disease became apparent and she needed time off to get better. The break was for three weeks but Williams took a longer much-needed break from the show in 2019 to get better as the effects of the condition took a toll on her. She also needed to attend to some personal issues.
Some of her celebrity friends took turns hosting the show on her behalf and everyone was rooting for Williams to get better. No one can quite fill the shoes of Wendy in my opinion but we all knew she needed this break.
“Despite her strong desire to return, she is taking a necessary, extended break from her show to focus on her personal and physical well-being,” a statement regarding her lengthy hiatus read. “Wendy thanks everyone in advance for their well-wishes and for respecting her and The Hunter Family’s privacy during this time.”
